User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3
If you have a textbox (<input type=text> or <textarea>) on a webpage where are
also animated graphics (in this case GIF format), the text cursor in those
textboxes doesn't blink regularly as specified in the system, but blinks like
crazy, very fast, it's on almost all the time and seems to flash off in between.
Additionally when you move the text cursor through the textbox, it leaves traces
where the cursor is not properly 'undrawn' in the text. This looks like vertical
lines between the characters. The display can be refreshed by selecting and
unselecting all of the text or redrawing the textbox by scrolling the page or
minimising and restoring the window.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to a page with animated graphics
2. Enter the textbox
3. Opt: Navigate the cursor
Actual Results:
Crazy cursor, leaving traces of it
Expected Results:
Regularly blinking cursor with no remaining fragments

Yup it blinks like crazy. But I can't see the "traces of cursor". Animated GIF
is a bad thing that everyone should try to avoid as it eats system resources...
I think this depends on configuration of your machine is. Or something related
to graphics card?

The cursor traces can be seen (on my PC at least) when you enter some text (some
lines) and navigate the cursor through this text. It may need more than just two
animations, I have about 10-15 little smilie animations in my case.
You might use any post edit form of a bulletin board as a testcase. Link this
one: http://blackboard.unclassified.de/forum.php?req=post&forum=8
There's no way around animated GIFs. Almost every web board uses them. Does
Firefox already support MNGs? How can I convert them? Other browsers are
incompatible, again?
Cannot be due to my graphics card because other people also reported this issue
to me. No special configuration. Install a blank WinXP (SP1), then Firefox
0.9.3, go to the web site and see the bug.

Added a screenshot. I could reproduce it like this:
- Enter several lines of text on the page
- Go somewhere in the middle
- Insert a space
- Backspace-remove it again
- Move the cursor somewhere else
-> Now you have a cursor trace where you inserted the space

This is a known Windows issue. Please find the original bug on this and mark
this one duplicate.

Sorry, /I/ did not find a dupe for this. If I had, I wouldn't have posted this
one. Bugzilla has the bad behaviour to either find nothing at all or hundreds of
results I would need weeks to check through. I don't want to become a Mozilla
specialist, I'm just annoyed with this bug... But I'd be happy if someone does
something against this "known issue". :)
Duplicate of bug 215724?
