Build Identifier:
If one sends emails in more than one language, one has to switch the spelling
checker manually between the languages for each new message that is written in
a different language. It should be nice that the spelling checker
automatically uses the right language.
The request is that one can identify a person or group in the address book to
use a certain language automatically for spelling checking. This would involve
an extra field in the address book.
The spelling checker will normally use the default language or the last used
as is now. If one composes an email, starts spelling checker and all of the
recipients (to, cc and bcc) have a different language set, than the language
the spelling checker would use is the one set for the recipients.
I know that it is very very hard to automatically determine a language so
setting it per user, like setting per user whether to send ASCII or HTML,
would be a nice feature. The setting per person will be fairly static since
persons will not all of a sudden change preferred language.
The automatic language selection for the spelling checker would increase the
use of the spelling checker since many people use more than two languages when
writing emails.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
If this feature is going to be implemented, is it automatically available in
thunderbird? Is code shared between Mozilla suite and Mozilla Thunderbird
automatically?

I would change this request to 'provide a language dropdown list in the compose window' because in my company we mix English and local language when composing emails.
- When an English speaking person is included in To/Cc, the entire message will be in English, regardless of the language of the other people
- We use LDAP for address books, and it is not possible to add a language flag there.

The dropdown menu is already in place in Thunderbird...

337155 doesn't solve the original request. The original request was to include a preferred language field in the addressbook entries and set the spell checker on composition to this language.
I would have left this bug unresolved.

I also disagree. This is not a dup of 337155. This enhancement request is about automatically switching the spell check language if a recipient's language is recognized, for example, through domain matching (eg., *.de -> German) or through a setting in the address book entry.
Please reopen this one or should we submit a new request of this?
