User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040914 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040914 Firefox/0.10 This website (of an Israeli newspaper) loads fine. I then follow any link to a news story, which also comes up with no problems. However, clicking the "Go Back" button to return to www.haaretz.co.il crashes Firefox every time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Log in as a regular user (non-root) 2. Start Firefox, and go to www.haaretz.co.il 3. Click on any of the story links (it's in Hebrew, but I guess you can figure out which are the story links...) 4. Click the "Go Back One Page" button Actual Results: Crash Expected Results: Should not crash ;-) 1. Only happens for non-root users (Firefox does not crash when launched from the root account) 2. Using the Plastik theme, but happens also with the default theme 3. Reproduced on both KDE and Gnome 4. Created a new user account (i.e., default preferences, no plugins) - still crashes 5. Built Firefox with debug information - see attachment for debug output. I have marked the output since going back to the main page using "<<< ... >>>"
Interesting, this is something between font handling and layout... is there any change you can make a much smaller testcase page that reproduces this? (For example, a page that uses one bad font.) Also, try on windows/mac to see if this is GTK2 font-handling specific.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040929 Firefox/0.10 WFM I followed the link "http://www.haaretz.co.il/captain/pages/indexCaptain.jhtml" (topleft) and went back to the mainpage w/o any trouble
No, it does not happen on Windows. My guess is that it has something to do with Xft. Unfortunately, I know nothing about web development, so I'm not sure I would be able to create a page that reproduces this problem (anyone care to help?) By the way, is it possible to disable Xft without recompiling Firefox?
Also crushes on other sites, e.g.: http://www.software-facilities/devel/kprof
Sorry, that last URL should have been http://www.software-facilities.com/devel-software/kprof
make sure you have no .fon fonts (bug 180309), your fonts are all world-readable (bug 183729)

Same on www.ntann.ru
Sorry, http://www.ntann.ru crashed on "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040927" agent version.
I found a couple of TT fonts that had root-only read permissions. Fixed that, and now Firefox doesn't crash anymore. Thanks! This bug should be resolved, though.
thanks Elad dupe of "Segmentation fault in XftLockFace (.ttf files need to be world-readable)" *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 183729 ***
