User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10.1
When selecting software updates to install via firefox's update manager in
prefs. you are sometimes required to select radio buttons. When you click one of
these radio buttons, it will not load the or display the radio in it's selected
state,(blue aqua ball for the mac X). It will intstall the selected updates,
it's just a matter of it not displaying the right button state image.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.have the ability to download an update to firefox (have an update to downloadd
so you will go through the update selection process. Better yet, make sure you
have two updates available.)
2.Go to prefs and open the software update feature.
3. When asked if you want to download optional or essential updates or make
other upadate descisions based on radio buttons, click buttons in mac os x.
Actual Results:
Radio buttons did not show selected state, but remained in unselected state.
Expected Results:
The selected state image should have been displayed when the button was clicked.
Cannot reproduce because no updates have been available since bug was posted.
However, I felt that this bug was essential enough that I could sacrifice the
ability of reporduceability.

I also see this issue on the Mac OS X nightly branch build from 2004-10-02.
When accessing the Software Update screen, it gives me three options as radio
buttons, but there is no graphical indication as to which radio button is
pressed. You can click the other radio buttons, and it will show you different
options, but the radio buttons never appear filled/selected.
User-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.3)
Gecko/20041002 Firefox/0.10
It should also be noted that this does seem to be a Mac-only bug, because I do
not experience it in Windows 98.

The attached image contains two screenshots of the Software Update screen. The
top screenshot has the "Critical Updates" radio box selected, and the bottom
one has the "Firefox 1.0 Preview Release" radio box selected. Note that
although you can see different information, there is no other indication as to
which radio box is selected, as they all appear blank. It should also be noted
that checkboxes work correctly.

wonder if this might be theme related? I encountered this when using the default
firefox theme, but not when I used Pinball 0.9.7.

I think you're right, because I just saw this problem on my sister's Windows XP
computer, which uses the "Doodle Plastik 1.5.8.1" theme. So if it's a
theme-related problem, then Pinstripe needs to be fixed.

> *** Bug 266334 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
(I've already mentioned what follows under Bug 266334, but since that bug is now
marked as as resolved it may be off the radar.)
Bug 266334 concerned two issues, which may or may not be related. One of them
was the cosmetic issue mentioned in this bug, and the other was the fact that
the software update feature doesn't seem to do anything (despite saying "update
succeeded"). The original reporter apparently believed that the first issue
caused the second and chose his summary accordingly; personally, I doubt that
they are connected, since clicking the different radio buttons does reveal
different available updates even without looking selected. More details are
available at that bug.
In any case, I believe that the "Software Update Doesn't Work" issue needs to be
on the radar. I don't know what the right procedure is for putting it there;
the easiest course might be to remove the duplicate label on bug 266334 and
change its summary appropriately, but I don't have the authority to do so.
(Alternately, I could just file a new bug, but I would hate to file a duplicate
like that.)

In reply to comment #6, I can confirm that using Software Update to upgrade from
0.10.1 to 1.0RC1 (on Mac OS X) does not work. Upgrading from 0.10 to 0.10.1
using the software upgrade method doesn't work either, but using Software Update
installing the patch for that upgrade DOES work. It does work as expected in
Windows.
So I don't think that bug 266334 is actually a duplicate of this bug. This bug
is about the theme issue that causes the radio buttons to not be in the
highlighted state, and bug 266334 is about the actual upgrade not working. I
doubt that the upgrade doesn't work because of the theme issue...it still knows
what you selected, and installing patches through Software Update still works.
So I think that bug 266334 should be reopened, and better worded.

I get this on Linux too (own build), but with every theme except the default
firefox theme. I can't check it with the official build, as I have glibc 2.3.4.
The radio buttons and checkboxes will select and deselect, but won't show it.
The only way you can tell one of the checkboxes is selected is that the "Install
now" button is enabled.

Tested with a recent trunk builds and it looks like the fix did come over
correctly from Aviary.
