Mozilla Mail is pretty often right about whether a mail is junk (spam) or not.
Most of the time you can see whether a mail is spam from its subject.
When I hit "N" or the "Next Message" button to go to the next unread message, I
want it to skip junk mails, if they would be visible at the same time as a
non-junk unread message. That way I can read the non-junk mails without any
further keypresses. I can eyeball the junk mails' Subjects and then give them
further attention, if needed. But in most cases (90%) I will only need to read
the non-junk mails.
This is just a UI optimisation. I don't know if this would be confusing, but I
thought I'd suggest it anyway.

Surely you could just use your Junk folder to hold mail you only want to read if
you need to give them further attention?

[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.1a2) Gecko/20060517 SeaMonkey/1.1a] (nightly) (W98SE)
[Mozilla Thunderbird, version 2 alpha 1 (20060517)] (nightly) (W98SE)
Confirming in both SM and TB:
Pressing 'N' skips the Junk message if it's read,
but select it if it's unread.
