From reporter's web page:
=====
occurs when there are:
attachments (no matter if inline or not)
a footer added by a mailing list deamon
all this get sent to an IMAP account
on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040803
the message body is missing and not displayed in the main mail window, nor it is
to be found in the attachment list. Webmail, Outlook and others handle this
correctly. i have also mails that get displayed correctly with the above
combination, but i didn't find the error cause.
=====
Message source at the web page shows:
multipart/mixed
text/plain (message body)
application/msword
application/pdf
application/msword
application/msword
application/msword
text/plain (mailing list footer)
The message renders as follows (per a screenshot at the webpage):
This body part will be downloaded on demand
----- horizontal rule -----
text of final text/plain
Reporter, I assume you're using IMAP mail? This is very likely a dupe of
bug 246415.
Summary: message body not displayed when attachments and signature present → message body not displayed when attachments and signature present

yes, reading trough IMAP server.
i may add that this may also somehow related to the way the mail gets written
out by the originating server: as i said, there is an automicaly added
disclaimer (footer) as *plain text* whereas the mail body is *html-formated*.

Um, you filed the bug under Thunderbird. The mail program from the suite is
listed as "MailNews" in the Product dropdown.
At any rate, this is a dupe.
