At the moment, XML can only be copied as plaintext, and as plaintext that we think is in an input widget at that. See comments in bug 270145 for some of the places that need to be fixed to deal with non-HTML MIME types better... This all probably needs to be fixed to get even close to editing XHTML in a sane way.
