I downloaded the 1.7.5 source and compiled it on ubuntu 4.10 / AMD64, with gcc
(GCC) 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-9ubuntu5), and I get:

If I get gcc-3.4 and g++-3.4 the compiled program works.

this is a GCC bug, upgrade to 3.4.
