start up browser, open messenger, and then do a File | Close on messenger and a File | Close on browser, I get one webshell leaked, and it never seems to quit. mail alone or browser alone, quit fine and no webshell leaks.
Reassign to mscott, since he's looked at webshell leaks before.

just one webshell leak! sspitzer you aren't trying hard enough =). It doesn't matter if you launch mail from the browser or just directly run mail. If you download a few imap messages, we always leak 3 webshells. I've been trying to track this down for a while now.
mscott: I was just providing a simple case. also, let the record show that mscott deserves the congression medal of honor for finding and fixing webshell leaks. he's the mailnews Audey Murphy
heh....and I give sspitzer a purple heart for continually going to war with regressions. So whose Audey Murphy?
Most decorated US soldier of WWII. Among his 27 US decorations was the Medal of Honor, the US's highest award for military conduct "above and beyond the call of duty", plus 5 decorations awarded by France and Belgium.
I think beta1 has to be able to quit successfully...

Putting on the PDT+ radar for beta1. Please make is quit. Forget the leak...just make it quit :-)
Whiteboard: [PDT+]
The webshell leakage has nothing to do with not being able to quit the application. I can actually start up the browser, startup mail then quit the application on linux without hanging just fine. I know at the time this bug was filed by seth there were several bugs floating around about crashes and hangs on exiting the app (not mail specific) I suspect the bug is just confusing the two separate problems. In short, I don't think this should be a PDT+ bug unless we are seeing a hang on quit again. Removing PDT+ nomination so the pdt team will re-evaluate it.
Summary: webshell leakage / not quitting → webshell leakage
Whiteboard: [PDT+]
Ok, PDT- since it quits ok (what an achievement!)

laurel, I just wanted to mention that there is a another bug that Pavlov owns where sometimes mozilla hangs on exit (for linux). That's probably what you are seeing and we have a PDt+ bug for it.

for some reason all of the beta1 keywords from the last project have turned into nsbeta1 keywords. I'm removing it so that it doesn't confuse the triaging process.

When using "multidesk" on Windows (2000), I regularly get mozilla windows back (but they don't repaint) that I already closed. It happens when I switch to some other desktop and back. It's the alert dialog boxes that come back as zombies most often. But normal windows happen also return quite often. multidesk -> www.techsuperior.com

I have just tried various things to reproduced this and haven't been able to, therefore closing down as WFM.
