Probably invalid. You're clearly depending on two IE bugs: 1) that it doesn't support table display types (or anonymous table object construction) 2) that it turns any inline element with a 'width' into 'inline-block' (which we don't yet support) But I didn't look two closely at what the correct behavior should be.
