In Windows checkboxes with no label attribute still have an "empty" space next
to them that will even be outlined when the checkbox is focused. In OS X there
is no label space at all. This may affect other elements that can have labels
such as radios.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make checkbox with no label
2. View in Windows
3. View in OS X

Actual Results:
In Windows there was an "empty" label area.

Expected Results:
There should have been no label area at all.
Not a DOM issue. Either XUL, or Windows native theming.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Should unlabelled checkboxes still show a focus outline?
(In reply to comment #3)
> Should unlabelled checkboxes still show a focus outline?

Absolutely. The focus must always be somehow visible. We do make one exception
for docs/subdocs in HTML.

Right now only the label is outlined when focused. Perhaps the focus outline
should encompas the checkbox itself, too. Then when you remove the label it just
shows the outline around the checkbox.
Blocks: focusnav
Summary: XUL checkboxes with no label attribute still have an empty label area in Windows → XUL checkboxes with no label attribute still have an empty label area in Windows & don't show focus
Results for Testcase #1

SeaMonkey trunk 2006072101 on SuSE Linux with KDE 3.4:
  Modern Theme, View->Default Style:
    focus outline around the box and check mark appears (x-shaped)
  Modern Theme, View->No Style:
    focus outline around the box and check mark appears (x-shaped)
  Classic Theme, View->Default Style:
    NO focus outline, but check mark appears (x-shaped)
  Classic Theme, View->No Style:
    NO focus outline and NO check mark

SeaMonkey debug build on older SuSE Linux run with remote X display:
  Modern Theme (exactly as Modern above)
  Classic Theme, View->Default Style:
    A focus outline appears to the right of the box (around the empty label),
      check mark appears (v-shaped)
  Classic Theme, View->No Style:
    NO focus outline and NO check mark (I see a grey area lighting up when
     :active)
As far as I can tell there is no focus/tabbing problem here,
the missing focus outline/check mark is a theme or style problem.
No longer blocks: focusnav
