People
(Reporter: gokusimpson, Assigned: bugs)
Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1
When I click the "Latest Headlines" button in the Bookmarks Toolbar with the
middle mouse button, over 25 new tabs pop up, each with a different headline. I
don't belive it should do that.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.middle mouse click on "Latest Headlines" button in Bookmarks Toolbar
2.Watch many tabs appear
3.
Actual Results:
many tabs appeared
Expected Results:
Not have 25+ tabs appear at once. Maybe go to a headline mainpage so the user
can choose the headline.

This is the intended behavior. It is like middle clicking on a folder, which
produces the same results. Thus this is likely invalid.

Yes, but shouldn't there be a warning if a time consuming activity that may
switch off the UI is starting.
The Reporter has an edge case, because if I were asked to pick a number, I would
say 23 or fewer - just do it; 24 or more ask whether you really meant to open
that many tabs at once.
The obvious alternative is for the user to ensure that he or she never places
more items in a Bookmarks Toolbar folder than he or she is happy to have
opened at one go, which strikes me as an onerous and hidden constraint, worse
(I concede by a small margin) that the extra dialogue I suggested.

The best fix is to make Firefox not hang when you open dozens of tabs at once.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
