I've added a couple of preview images for the extension Xpoint Sidebar as PNG images. UMO scaled them down (which is ok) and converted them to JPEG. The file size for the resulted images was twice as large as for the originals. 1. Why are screenshots converted to JPEG at all even though the compression rate of non-lossy algorithms (PNG, GIF) for this type of images is better? 2. What is wrong with JPEG conversion? When doing the same in IrfanView (80% JPEG quality) I get only 25% size increase, there is no noticable quality difference to the preview at UMO. Does UMO just use a bad library for JPEG conversion or are some parameters wrong?

However, this bug is in the correct product and component IMO. The Update product is for the addons.mozilla.org website and the developers component is for bugs regarding the developers section of the website. Seeing as this bug is about a process that happens in the developer control panel of the addons.mozilla.org site, it belongs here :)

Wladimir: could you please try out the preview uploader in Remora (http://preview.addons.mozilla.org/developers) and tell me how things are now?

I uploaded a 14 kB GIF image - and well, it stayed exactly the same image. Feel free to resolve this bug whenever you like.
