I realized that Firefox 1.0 download manager often completes abruptly declaring
the file download as completed, even when only a portion of the file is
downloaded. This is very frequent in slow connections. At this point there is
also no facility to re-download the file or better yet recover from the failed
download.
Secondly firefox pause function fails frequently, refusing to resume thereafter.
Often downloads are stuck in the middle with the status information
disappearing. At that point the download thread seems to be in somewhat zombie
state. Nothing works!
Other users have faced the same problem as can be found in the comments section
of http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/firefox-download-manager-is-broken/
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use a dial-up connection
2.Dowload a 20MB+ file
Actual Results:
See details section.
Expected Results:
It should have successfully completed the download.
This looks somewhat similar but not identical to defect
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=276254
I also noticed that firefox pause function fails frequently, refusing to resume
thereafter.
I confirm this bug with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3.
It's not so much the connection speed that affects this but the stability of the
connection, I have broadband (but from a **** ISP) and this happens to me.
I wish I could confirm and mark this sucker as blocker to 1.1, how something so
crucial can be so broken for so long.

My last change was in response to the comment before o move it to blocker. Even
yesterday when i was downloading a moderate sized file 4-5 MB Janino package, it
saved partially and tols me it was complete. I am now running 1.03.
At this point in my estimation it is a blocker and should be assigned P1 status.
Download is a integral component of any browser and it should function reliably.
You shouldn't mark this as a blocker yourself. The correct procedure is under
the flag field choose a question mark for blocking aviary 1.1. Someone will
eventually come along and either change it to '-' which means denied or '+'
meaning this will block Firefox 1.1.
Can you please change the summary to a single succinct sentence. This will make
it more likely that one of the developers will read the bug and mark it as new.

The download manager often breaks even with small sized files and regularly with
large files.
Additionally it cannot recover from broken connections.

I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7)
Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3. I also get this bug when downloading files as
small as 5 MB.
Is related to connection stability, using AOL connection I lose files
frequently. Using a local ISP's connection I rarely lose downloads.
