User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 MultiZilla/1.7.0.2d Build Identifier: Mozilla 1.7.5 - I can't currently work on the affected W2K machine Hello, on a w2k machine I have an inbox in Mozilla Mail that has grown to be more than 2 GB big. Since then, no more mail can be received, and apparently also not successfully deleted. Ie, the appropriate folders in the left pane vanish, but the Inbox file remains at the size. Also, some "recent" mails are garbled, looking like containing _several_ old mails. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Let "INBOX" fill up 2. 3. Actual Results: Mail can't be normally processed anymore. Expected Results: I expect to be able to successfully delete old mails and then have room again for new mails w/o excessive copying of mails. Mozilla should detect that the size of any mail folder is coming close to it's own limit, or the limit of the underlying file/operating system (whichever comes first), and pop up a warning like "You are going over quota". As experienced, it just happily downloads mail until it's too late, then popping up an alert like "Your mailbox is full. Please delete old mails before continuing.", after it already has destroyed some recent mails, and remaining in a state that doesn't look like being easy to recover from.
Have you tried a trunk build (e.g., 1.8b2)? Although I thought this was fixed in 1.7.x as well, on a trunk build I can have a folder up to 4GB.
Hi, thanks for the suggestion of using an 1.8 piece, but I've got a few problems with that: - I can't find an 1.8b2 currently, and even lesser a localized w2k version (it should be German, the user doesn't speak much English...). - The user I need to give the program to is a highly non-technical person. I'm a bit hesitant to send him a beta. - I also didn't find the bug in Bugzilla where it should have been noted if it was fixed (imho).

I'm a > bit hesitant to send him a beta. http://mozilla.kairo.at/ You can get 1.8b1 as a zip package. I would suggest not to touch the original installation, don´t uninstall. Just unzip somewhere where a new folder named Mozilla can be created, make a shortcut to "mozilla.exe -Profilemanager" to that folder. Create a new profile, or at least make a copy of your bookmarks.html, as 1.8 converts the bookmarksfile, if you use that in a 1.7 again you'll see apostrophes replaced by something like ' or so. You can still use the file, it is only a visible effect. As your client is a non-technical person, chances are high the MBOX-Files never got compressed. Copy the mbox files over to the local folder of the new mozilla, compress, and copy back. You also can split them using a text editor, if you know the simple format: http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man5/mbox.5.html Rename the older part and put it into the local folder, you can open it from there. Be sure to have backups. For further support on workarounds or installation help use forums, like http://www.heise.de/foren/go.shtml?read=1&msg_id=7724489&forum_id=36478 or http://forums.mozillazine.org/ You also can mail me.

You mean, it's not in 1.7.7 despite the bug you point to being from 2003? I saw the "blocking 1.7.8" flag, so I assume a "yes".
