View source in mailnews displays fine, but if you select, copy, and paste into another window, there are no line breaks. To reproduce: 1. Select message 2. View | Page source 3. Select multiple lines and Edit | Copy 4. Edit | Paste into another window Actual result: lines are pasted run together Expected result: line breaks as in source view Linux build 2000.03.04.08
Hi Akkana, I don't think this is your issue, but you probably know who it might be? - rhp

Summary: View source doesn't have line breaks → Edit->Copy for message->view source operations removes line breaks
Just for some more info here. I am not "processing" any of the data in libmime during these view source operations. When the mime stream converter gets this data, it just writes it to the output stream without any sort of parsing at all. Basically, it should be coming through as plain text. - rhp
Akkana--I can reproduce this bug on Mac as reported above. The copy on the clipboard doesn't appear to have any cr/lf. I did notice that copying from the message view pane does have the cr/lf.

As reported in the duplicate bug: This is also broken for View | Source in the browser, and there not only CR/LF is missing from the clipboard, but also < and > surrounding HTML tags.
See bug 13068 for the "<" and ">" tag problem. The problem is that they're generated content, and so are not part of the selection. Long story. I'm not sure what the deal is with the newlines, but I suspect they're also part of the generated content, and hopefully will just fall out of the work for 13068. If not, I'll have to look at it after that bug is fixed. But we can't fix anything until we can select the generated content.

Mike thinks he's solved the problem of generated content selection (yeehaw!) and in fact, it does seem to have fixed this problem. At least, I read a plaintext message in the 3-pane, do View->Source, sweep out a block of several lines, paste somewhere else, and indeed line breaks are retained.

Verified fixed on Linux build 2000.04.19.08. Still need to test on Win and Mac.
Linux (2000-07-05-08 M17) Win32 (2000-07-05-09 M17) Mac (2000-07-05-11 M17) Using the same scenario as originally described. Line breaks are retained when copy and paste into a new window on all platforms.

Reopen? bug 48172 happens on linux build 20000807
*** Bug 48172 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Reopening. This doesn't seem to really belong to mailnews. Anyway, on Linux M18 2000-08-08-20, select-and-paste from View Source pastes neither line breaks nor <>.

Looks like we're back to not getting generated content as part of the selection. I don't see the <> or the line breaks either. Mike?
