Currently, there is no way to automatically delete mail from the Junk folder if
you choose not to automatically move mail marked as junk to the Junk folder.
This is flawed because someone that uses "When I manually mark mail as Junk,
move them to the Junk folder" can't have these messages automatically deleted.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Junk mail controls.
2. Uncheck "Move incoming messages determined to be junk to:"

Actual Results:
Note that "Automatically delete Junk mail older than..." is disabled.

Expected Results:
You should be able to use this option.

I don't see how this option relates to automatically moving messages to the Junk
folder since you can do the same thing with "When I manually mark mail as junk".
This probably needs to be taken out of this subgroup so it can be used when not
using "Move incoming message marked as Junk...".
I agree - I also don't like this.
the "Automatically delete messaged older than .... days" option should not be a suboption of "Move incoming messages determined to be junk to:"
Per bug 217528, manually-junked messages don't even get moved in the first place if automatic-move is turned off; do you not see this?

backing out comment 4, I'll let someone else comment - purple haze must have been playing. Is bug 217528 comment 17 relevant?

I do not see this. On Thunderbird 9.0 I have an IMAP account with automatic-move turned off. When I press "j" on a message (or a set of messages), the selected message(s) are marked as junk, marked read, and deleted as per my junk preferences set in Preferences -> Security -> Junk tab.

So from my perspective automatically removing junk messages older than N days is independent of whether TB is set to auto-move junk mail. I believe these features should be independently selectable.

Perhaps aleca can sort this out this UI conflict

Indeed, the autodelete option for Junk messages should be independent from the auto-move option.

I'll take care of this later next week.
