User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050909 Galeon/1.3.21 Build Identifier: firefox-1.0.6-1.2.fc4 (RPM) Given how complicated web browsers are and the wide variety of input they have to handle, even the best of them (including Firefox) sometimes crash. They are also sometimes killed by forces beyond their control - a laptop battery konks out, another application horks the X server and the whole thing crashes or has to be killed, a power cord is tripped over, a power button is accidentally leaned on....there are any number of minor computing tragedies that can cause the untimely demise of a browser. This is particularly annoying if you, like me, will at any given time have a large number of tabs or windows open which contain state related to your current or future tasks. One of the best-ever features of Galeon is that upon startup after a crash or unclean shutdown, it offers the user the chance to restore their previous session (either by opening the pages automatically, or by creating a new folder of bookmarks). It does this by recording open pages in a private file. When the browser exits normally, the file is deleted or emptied. The browser doesn't (and can't) clear the file when it crashes or is killed. So if the file exists on startup, Galeon knows it died unexpectedly, and can restore its page-reading state more or less as it was before the interruption. Everyone deserves a web browser with this feature. It has saved me annoyance and consternation and data loss sooo many times. I'm hoping to change to Firefox from Galeon, since it's now the preferred open source browser for Fedora and in many other contexts. So far, I'm just waiting for this handy feature to make the switch. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

I don't think this is a dup of bug 159357. That's about a pref regarding what happens when you reopen Firefox after closing it. This is about crash recovery and doesn't even need to be a pref.

Well, as it turned out in the bug that enabled it, it did need to be a pref, though only for the sake of tinderboxen. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 328159 ***
