Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; U; Warp 4.5; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20051014 SeaMonkey/1.1a Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; U; Warp 4.5; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20051014 SeaMonkey/1.1a I needed to download the update to an already purchased program (PMview for OS/2) As instructed by the supplier(BMT micro) I needed to use the download link contained within the confirmation email from original purchase still contained within Mozilla mail. When I did this to download the file which invokes a password to obtain secure basis for download. Procedure fails with error message "C:\tcpip\tmp\zwilbsag.exe could not be saved because source file could not be read. Try again later or contact the server administrator" Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.double click on link within originators email 2.select language for file to be downloaded 3.error occurs Actual Results: Error message "C:\tcpip\tmp\zwilbsag.exe could not be saved because source file could not be read. Try again later or contact the server administrator" Expected Results: Allow choice of download destination and download file Only solution was to reload an older version of Mozilla(1.8b2) - then the procedure operates perfectly. BTW tryed using copied url with firefox 1.5 for OS/2 and got the same error message
What does the temporary file contain? This sounds like a broken server setup to me. Have you contacted BMTMicro about this? Too bad that you cannot post this link here (I didn't have time yet to download my PMView, and I guess I will do it via Mensys anyway). The only route that I can imagine at the moment is to trace the traffic with iptrace/ipformat. In the formatted output you could XXX the URL and then post here (or send to me).

any chance you could get the PMView folks to give me access to this download for testing?
This happens in some nightbuilds for some time, nothing can be downloaded, even download manager does not show up. I don't remember which was last not working build.
OK, I now got my updated link to PMView on the BMTMicro website and I can confirm that the download from that particular https site at least does not work in the current trunk with SeaMonkey (while it does work on the 1.8 branch, tested with SeaMonkey 1.0a and Firefox 1.5b2). Instead, I get a similar message about a file in %TMP% that can not be read. At the time of the error message that file exists but has a size of 0 bytes. Unfortunately, sharing the link I have does not work across countries and none of the servers I have access to supports secure connections any more, so I cannot give or produce a testcase.

Ever confirmed: true
It happens on Linux, too, with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20051018 SeaMonkey/1.1a There are numerous bugs with the error message as Summary, most (all?) of them got duped to bug 180672. Not sure if this applies to the problem we are seeing, because it is not present in older builds (not on the 1.8 branch), and there is no error about nsContentAreaUtils.js in the JS console. Downloading the liked file directly from an URL like this (Xed out confidential parts) https://secure.bmtmicro.com/servlets/RIP.FileDownload?PRODUCTID=XXXXXXX&PASSWORD=XXXXXXXXXX&FILENAME=pmview320os2fullenu.exe fails as well.

Sorry for the delay. the file ZWILBSAG.EXE quoted in my original report is a random named temporary file which is deleted after each run - it is zero length and produces the following message if executed FOPEN SYS0318: MESSAGE FILECPART40.MSG CANNOT BE FOUND FOR MESSAGE 5009. hope this helps
With the: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.5) Gecko/20060618 SeaMonkey/1.0.2 nightly, I cannot download from FTP sites, get a box "...<filename.exe> could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."
In latest 1.8.0 nightly: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.5) Gecko/20060623 SeaMonkey/1.0.2 the error referenced does not appear and downloads are saved.
Build for comment 9: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060803 SeaMonkey/1.1a
Never mind, the URL fix at Bug 180672 solved the problem for me.
This seems very much like bug 333280... Could this somehow involve a read-only downloads.rdf file in the profile?
