"Check for Updates..." should say "Check for Updates to Firefox...", and below it should be "Check for Updates to Extensions..." and "Check for Updates to Themes...". Or the menu item could have "Check for Updates to" > with sub-menus "All...", horizontal rule, "Firefox...", "Extensions..." and "Themes...".
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
I thought the whole point of switching to just one menu item was that all updates would be checked at the same time. Wasn't that the reason that the old updates business in the Options dialog was altered?

If that is what it is doing (and, if I recall correctly, it missed an extension which I updated via Tools > Extensions > Find Updates) then it should say so clearly. The dialog box that appears should say
Checking for updates to Firefox...
and update this to
Checking for updates to Firefox: none found.
Checking for updates to Extensions...
which becomes
Checking for updates to Firefox: none found.
Checking for updates to Extensions: none found.
Checking for updates to Themes...
etc.
Currently it is unclear what it is doing.
This really should be the default behaviour, requesting blocker status for Fx2. Currently a user (with one or more theme and extension installed) has to do the following to check everything in the application is up to date:
1. Click 'Check for Updates'.
2. Open the EM, click 'Find Updates'.
3. Open the TM, click 'Find Updates'.
The summary for this bug should be changed to something like '"Check for Updates..." should also check for extension and theme updates'.
I also think Fx should notify the user if an update to an extension or theme is found during a background check, in the same way that updates to the core application are dealt with...but that'll be a separate bug.

The new updater for Firefox 1.5 changed the way updates are done, from the all-in-one dialog of 1.0.x to just handling the app. Since this was deliberate, and the update check for extensions & themes still happens behind the scenes, this bug could really be duped against bug 307358 (which deals with the lack of notification when extension and theme updates are available). Menu bloat as suggested by the reporter isn't a good idea from a UI or workpath point of view.

More verbose descriptions are bad, and menu bloat is worse. WONTFIX.

And ambiguous or misleading menu names are also bad. Check for updates actually checks for a single update; it has mislead me and others.
Leaving as wontfix only because I don't have the confidence to do otherwise.
