In testing Mozilla i often remove the entire mozilla directory and reinstall
from the begining. The probelm is one has to re download the PSM from iplanet
each time you want crypto. If we could have the PSM in a different place or be
able to download the PSM installer to keep it local it would be very helpful in
testing.

I totally agree. It was a mistake to install psm in the bin directory.

Reassigning all https/cartman/security bugs to valeski. He will be finding new
owner(s). This shift is so that I can focus on embedding issues. If the new
owner has questions that can not be resovled, I may be able to lend a (quick)
hand.
over to valeski....

This is no longer a requirement

I agree with the original poster that this is a useful feature, as I have to
reinstall PSM every single time I update mozilla. I don't understand Javier's
comment about this not being a requirement.

nor do I. Javi, this is important to client.

The goal here is to get all the source code out on Mozilla, and for Mozilla
builds to pick up PSM. That way there is no need to install PSM. It will just
be there. It will take some time, but that's the plan.
So, lord, is this task for your group to do?

This may also be the cause of this behaviour of Mozilla/PSM that sometimes after
a new nightly build is installed the PSM doesn't work even when reinstalled.
When trying to connect to a server with HTTPS, i get a "The connection was
refused when attempting to contact <<Here server address." It happens with most
nightly builds, also with my current 2000100204 Windows-talkback.
I suspect it might be caused by the previous installation of PSM leaving
something behind in the profile directory.

I wonder if we now should mark this bug won't fix or WFM as now PSM is included
with the Mozilla nightly files.
Or should we keep it opent for other groups that wish to use the mozilla code?

In theory you should be able to share PSM w/ multiple applications, right? (eg
Netscape6, Mozilla, Komodo, Jabber, Beonex, ...) As a space saving measure we
should still be able to have only one PSM and for it to not be in mozilla/bin.

seems to me that this bug goes away once psm is just part of the mozilla build.

Changing to Wontfix. PSM is now built into Win and Mac, and soon with Linux.

shouldn't this be marked fixed rather than wont fix?
Comment 17•24 years ago
|

Absolutely not. This bug is not fixed, and unfortunately it seems like people
aren't going to fix it. Marking helpwanted.
