Details
The source of an XHTML document contains so-called "compact" tags like this:
<meta name="author" content="Michael Wardle" />
The source document validates as valid XHTML 1.0 Strict on the W3C MarkUp Validator <http://validator.w3.org>.
Saving this document using File->Save Page As...->Web Page, complete... causes the trailing slash in compact tags to be stripped out in the generated file.
This causes the saved file to not validate.

The standard states that XHTML should be served with a MIME type of "application/xhtml+xml". Since it's served as text/html from your server, Firefox treats it as such.
