Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8) and every other version I have ever tried back before 1.0
Every time I try to go to the yahoo games page (http://games.yahoo.com/) my machine freezes - ctrl-alt-del does not work - must shut off machine. I have tried loading various versions of java and flash et cetera - nothing has worked. The interesting thing is that if I start Internet Explorer (ver. 5.5x) and then start Firefox and use Firefox to go to yahoo games it works fine. In some cases if I start Internet Explorer and then close it - then start Firefox and go to yahoo games it does not crash. So in a nutshell I must start Internet Explorer first and then start firefox to be able to go to the Yahoo games site. Please note that I have had the same problem regardless of the version (or build)of Firefox. Have been trying to since before firefox 1.0. I am running an amd kx2 450 cpu - have plenty of memory and no other software is crashing my system presently. Firefox also crashes (and freezes machine) sporadically on other sites as well, but games.yahoo.com is 100% consistent. Please help as I wold like to kick the Internet Explorer habit. Thanks - Jim
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start Firefox
2.go to http://games.yahoo.com
3. Machine freezes
or
1. Start Internet Explorer
2. Start Firefox
3. go to http://games.yahoo.com
4. loads page just fine
Actual Results:
Pretty simple and described in the steps above.
Expected Results:
Machine Freezes and must be completely shut down and rebooted.
If Internet Explorer is loaded first the it works just fine.
Firefox should load games.yahoo.com and not freeze my machine. I should not have to ever use Internet Explorer in order to use Firefox.
Please let me know if you require more detailed information about this bug (yeah I know I am on win 98 - there are still plenty of us out there). Thanks again.
Try the mozillazine.org forums. I don't believe this is likely a true firefox bug, but some strange thing involving a confluence of things (like java, flash, your os). There are tutorials on the net for disabling internet explorer's java, so that you can use SUN's. You can disable flash by disabling (by renaming) macromedia's plugins (often in your system folder).
