In previous versions, with thunderbird set to not "remember last message selected" I could mark mail as junk without having a message selected, which is good when you don't want to *open* junkmail. Now it selects, and previews a message, not sure how it chooses it. In my unprofessional estimation i was thinking it was related to fixing how marking something as junk didn't dismiss the tray icon that you have new mail, but my bugzilla search skills aren't so great, couldn't find that bug to look into it. Anyway, steps to reproduce - 1. in options -> adavanced -> general make sure it has "Remember the last message selected" unchecked. 2. go to a folder and click on the place to mark something as junk manually Actual results - it moves the mail to the junk folder but also selects a message Expected results - it only moes the mail to junk and leaves no message selected.
Related to/duplicate of Core bug 209748 comment 27 (and maybe bug 322980)?
Yes, it's pretty much the same behavior as those two comments, although this is happening with my pop mail (re bug 322980). I do have my junk set to move to the junk folder in local folders (re bug 209748 comment 27) and I'm using xp. Although it's not selecting the message after the junk. I suspect it's selecting the message after the last one that had been selected - which would be related to another bug I've been looking for - when I have a message selected and I mark something as junk, if the list moves (how to describe this properly, when you have a list that's longer than the pane and you move mail out, the messages will sometimes move up or down depending on how you have the view selected, to fill the place of the mails removed from the list) it doesn't stay on the selected message, but selects another message in the list (I'm thinking the one that is taking the place on the list of the message that was selected). In older versions of tb I got around this by making sure I didn't have a message selected before I started marking junk. If there is a bug out there about whether or not to select a new message after the selected message is moved, then it would be related to that as well.

The problem is not specific to IMAP. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 209748 ***

Just to be clear, you're saying this is a regression from the bug you've marked it against? I didn't say anything about IMAP so that doesnt make sense to me. Comment 27 seems to be the same issue as this, not the same issue as 209748, but I'll stand corrected as necessary.
(In reply to comment #4) > Just to be clear, you're saying this is a regression from the bug you've > marked it against? Not a regression -- you're experiencing the same problem as that bug. The basic issue is, removing a message from the Inbox by marking it junk causes the selection to advance. This can also cause the thread pane to scroll if the selected message isn't in view. > I didn't say anything about IMAP so that doesnt make sense to me. I was responsing to "pretty much the same behavior ... although this is happening with my pop mail" -- which I assumed you said since bug 322980 made a point of stating the problem was occurring with an IMAP account.
I'm sorry, after lots of thought and reading, I'm going to have to disagree. This is NEW behavior and/or a regression. If it is the same behavior as the bug this was duped to, then some other fix/code change exposed this, which would make it a regression. There should be some reference to which, here, and this should be marked dependant on the bug it was duped against if it's going to have a relationship to it. Although my complaint has nothing to do with *which* message is selected (as is with bug 209748) the problem here is that ANY message is being selected.

Whatever.
Depends on: 209748
Does the fix in bug 209748 actually fix this one as well, or will it still select the "current" message?
if the message that you mark as junk is selected, and marking it as junk deletes the message, then yes, the next message will be selected, just as if you only deleted the message. Otherwise, no.
Ok I've got nothing selected in the first place, so no, it won't fix it? (i think that's what you're saying, just want to be sure)
No, otherwise the next message won't be selected, i.e., it should be fixed for you.
lol so you mean yes :)
if you go back and read my comment as only describing whether or not a message will be selected when you mark a message as junk, it'll make more sense. I'm leaving it up to you to decide if the new behavior fixes the bug for you.
Lucy, problem gone?
oh yes, it is. I still get the little focus ring, but nothing is actually selected.
sorta like bug 200138?
