User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1
If an attempt is made to visit the site http://www.is.co.za with Firefox v1.5.0.1 running under MacosX Tiger with all updates installed, the browser hangs half way through rendering the page.
Viewing the same page using Mozilla v1.7.12 under RHEL4 works fine, and reveals that the hang occurs just before display of what seems to be a Java applet.
After the hang, the Firefox menu is still accessible, but the browser window and all tabs no longer respond.
In this state it is neither possible to shut down Firefox by selecting quit, nor kill it from the Firefox icon, you need to send a kill via a terminal window.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

I experience the same problem. when a site is embedded with java that fails to load, firefox will hang. However, if you wait long enough, firefox will come back and shows loading java applet failed. An example of such sites is http://www.xanga.com/nevillenah
