Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Every time I try to load the extension I get the error.
2. I tried closing out Palm Desktop
3. I tried closing out the Hot Sync Manager
Actual Results:
The error box pops up.
Expected Results:
Loaded the address book

You will get excellent help by referring to http://kb.mozillazine.org/PalmSync_%28Thunderbird%29 and by asking at the forum(s) listed on that KB article. Most install and first time use problems can be resolved using these resources. After using them please come back and report your success/failure.
Also be sure to refernce there, and here, your version number of Thunderbird.

Jennifer has not responded to direct email either.
In my tests a couple weeks ago, install failed with this message approx 50% of the time. When it fails and I either install a second time or run PalmSyncInstall.exe (the program that generates this message), it always succeeds with no error message. When it fails I also see hotsync manager has terminated and not started back up.
not sure yet if bug 182573 is related.

Joshua, you played around with palmsync a few weeks ago iirc. I don't suppose anything's changed since?

Well, bug 413260 is the only set of changes I'm aware of.

Nothing that we have done in the last 1.5 year would have improved this or made it worse afaik. Certainly nothing happening in AB interfaces - install issues are all in what happens between the palm conduit manager and us, and palmsyncinstall.exe.
There are at least 2-3 distinct startup problems. This is probably a dupe, but don't think there's not enough info to definitively do the dupe.
