Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060318 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:0000000000
Confirmed.
If you have the All-in-One sidebar extension installed, the menu is populated, however.

That was a binary package from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8/firefox-2.0a1.en-US.linux-i686.tar.gz

Maybe this is related to bug 329236.

The sidebar is currently removed from Places-builds (see bug 329236 / bug 329068). Maybe we should remove the entry from the menubar too. Or at least disable it when there are no entries.
Depends on: 329236

*** Bug 332394 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
In reply to comment #5: A number of extensions open sidebars, and at least two (Translation Panel and MR Tech Local Install) use the View > Sidebar menu item. Their response to removal of this menu item would be to clutter up the menus with menuitems for opening their sidebars.
OTOH, perhaps a better approach would be to allow Places to open in a sidebar, thus repopulating the menu. The new placesPopup does not function as a sidebar, since it can cover content.

Not a 2.0 blocker. Only visible on the trunk.

the history sidebar is coming back soon (based on the places backend, see bug #329236 and bug #356487), so once those land, this will be fixed.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
