User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2 Build Identifier: version 3 alpha 1 (20060411) I don’t quite know how to describe the problem I am experiencing, but here it goes. I am using version 3 alpha 1 (20060411). Here is a process to create the problem I am experiencing. -Send yourself an E-Mail with an image embedded. (Insert, Image, Navigate to your file of choice.) -I say send the E-Mail to yourself because it’s quick and you can see what I am talking about first hand. -Uncheck “Display Attachments Inline” under the “View” menu. -Once you have received the message you just sent yourself, forward it as an ATTACHMENT to your E-Mail address. -Once you have received the forwarded message, you should see the original message attached. -Open that message, by double clicking the attachment. -You should be able to see your image and any text you included just fine. -Now here is where the problem comes…from that attached message, click “Message” “Forward As” “Inline”. -A new compose message window will appear, and any TEXT you included will be there intact, but the image is not, an image placeholder is where the image should be. I understand that the original “Forward Inline Image Bug” (I believe it was 315625) was fixed, but this is a bit of a spin off of that bug. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: -Send yourself an E-Mail with an image embedded. Actual Results: The images aren't included. Expected Results: Included the images.

I can confirm this on Win2k sp4 with TB 1.5.0.5 I belive the problem is with the embebeding of the files in the forwarded message. My problem is really simple, I have an email with inline images. When I try to forward it the inline images aren't added to the email. I get a new message window with the text from the original message and the placeholders to the images. If I save this new email and look the source I see that the image src is something like this mailbox:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Facundo/Datos%20de%20programa/Thunderbird/Profiles/s77mvkjr.default/Mail/pop.iplannetworks-1.net/Varios?numberS50329&part=1.2&filename 06_07_12_busqueda_pisani.gif
I believe this is a dupe of bug 315625. There is a fix, but it won't be in place until TB 2.0 is released. You can try the 2a1 alpha release or a 2b1 nightly if you want to verify the problem has been fixed.
While comment #1 indeed looks like bug 315625 (direct forward of a message), the original report is similar to bug 204350 comment #73 part (2) on forwarding inline an opened attached message. In the generated message, the main message body is referring to an embedded image, but instead of the image itself the entire message attachment as reattached. Thus, the image cannot be displayed (wrong MIME type) and is shown broken. I'm seeing this with both forwarding and replying the same way. Also interesting, the attached message = would-be image shows up as ForwardedMessage.eml with View > Message Body As > Plain Text, double-clicking opens a message window but doesn't display anything. Reproduced on branch and trunk, thus confirming this bug. It's probably better to handle this specific issue here separately than as part of the quite comprehensive bug 204350 umbrella. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008042302 SeaMonkey/2.0a1pre and Thunderbird 3.0a1pre (Windows/2008042303).
