The htaccess authorization for editors at dmoz.org persists to all the editing screens, but the first time you enter the discussion forum, and when you enter one of the forums, you also have to enter your password. NS 4.7 only requires authentication once, upon login. To reproduce: 1. Go to http://dmoz.org/ 2. Click "Editor Login" 3. Enter editor id and password 4. On the editor dashboard, click "Editor Forums" Actual result: password dialog appears. Expected result: authorization should persist to the UBB forums. CC: momoi, who works on ODP i18n and can probably get whoever will test this an editor account. Linux build 2000.02.28.08
Sounds like a cookie problem. Jud: Can you take a look?

cc'ing morse, if it's a cookie problem, he might be closest to it.
A couple of questions: 1. Is this a cross-platform problem or is it linux only? 2. Has anyone put a sniffer on it to analyze the traffic and compare it with the 4.7 traffic. That will indicate imediately if it is a cookies problem or an http authentication problem. I suspect the latter.
1. I haven't tested on Windows... I only have Linux. 2. I haven't sniffed the traffic (and wouldn't know how to). But the cookie manager doesn't list any dmoz.org cookies. I think it's http auth, not cookies. I think the problem is that when you first log in, it's for http://www.dmoz.org/editors/ The forum is at http://www.dmoz.org/forum/index.cgi The thread list is http://dmoz.org/forum/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=General I get a password dialog for all three, on NS 4.7 I only get it for the first, and the login persists until the end of the browser session.
over to gagan.
