User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3

After automatic updating to firefox V1.5.0.3 display of a pdf file does not longer work.
The whole browser hangs after click to link to a pdf file. The process must be killed.
Same web pages work fine with IE.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.find any web page providing the display of a pdf file
2.click on link to pdf file
3.browser hangs

Actual Results:
acrobat reader is activated and displays a blank page.
the load bar shows that load is in progress but does not continue, just stops.

Expected Results:
PDF file should be displayed.

To get the file displayed I used micosofts internet explorer which worked fine.
This may be because of the Adobe Reader plugin itself. The plugin usually follows the app version it is accoustomed to, so try finding a DLL in %ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\*.dll (reader plugin DLL).
-----
Also, try reconfiguring Adobe Reader from the actual app.

As I described in Bug 147309 Comment #31, Adobe kindly changed Adobe Reader 7's design of PDF plugin management process for Mozilla family's automatic plugin search feature.
 (1) When "Display PDF in Browser" option is enabled,
     copy nppdf32.dll to both of
           C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
       and C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Browser
 (2) When "Display PDF in Browser" option is disabled,
     remove nppdf32.dll from both of
           C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
       and C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Browser
(Removing from Fx's plugins is done only if (1) was previously executed.)

(Q1) Is there any mismatch in version of nppdf32.dll?
Check timestamp, file size, "version info." of property of nppdf32.dll
     of both ...Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Browser and ...Mozilla Firefox\plugins
(On my MS Win2K, version of nppdf32.dll was 7.0.0 when Adobe Reader 7.0.5,)
(and is still 7.0.0 even after upgrade to Adobe Reader 7.0.7.)
See Bug 336184 comment #2 also.

(Q2) If no mismatch, see dependency tree of Bug 336184, and read bug reports
     for Adobe 7.0.x.
Are there any bug reports for same problems as yours in the tree?

wgoletz@lmgwg.de(bug opener), does it mean "No problem before automatic updating to 1.5.0.3"?
What is previous version of Fx? (if upgrading was the trigger of your problem)
Adobe Acrobat/Reader version is changed too? Or kept same?
The acrobat reader has not changed in between.
But in the meantime Windows XP got an automatic update and now it works again.
For me there is no way to understand that.

> But in the meantime Windows XP got an automatic update and now it works again.
Since main cause seems to be hang in Acrord32.exe(windowless hidden process if kicked by PDF plugin), it sounds that:
1.Hang in acrord32.exe during repeated PDF open/close in Tab, then freeze of Fx
2.Shutdown and Reboot (Windows update usually forces reboot)
 3.Hanging acrord32.exe disappers
4.Fortunately, you don't see hang of acrord32.exe yet.
Try killing of hidden acrord32.exe process when you will experience hang of Firefox while trying to view PDF or try to unload PDF.
Removing "since update to" from summary because updating to 1.5.0.3 itself has no relation to this bug.
Summary: since update to 1.5.0.3 Firefox hangs when a PDF file is to be loaded for Adobe reader 7.0.7 → Firefox 1.5.0.3 hangs when a PDF file is to be loaded for Adobe reader 7.0.7

This is because the 1.5.0.3 update is just a security update. (For those who dont' know)
CPU utilization goes to 100% when a pdf is loaded inside Firefox. The system hangs, and has to be reset.
Is this still valid? Please close as WORKSFORME if you are unable to reproduce this problem with a recently nightly test build (http://mozilla.org/developer)
WFM with a clean profile (no Adobe plugin); sounds like it is/was an issue with the plugin.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/2007051502 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Reporter, or anyone else who's seen this, can you still reproduce using Firefox 2.0.0.4 or later with a clean profile and the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader?
