[rfe] automatically add me to the cc list of a depending bug when BugsThisDependsOn changes Here's the problem I'm trying to solve with this RFE, but there might be a solution already or there might be a better RFE to do it. Say I am on the cc list or the assignee for bug #X and I'm really interesting in this bug and all things related to it. (Maybe I'm that way about all my bugs.) Someone else comes along to my bug #X and notes that bug #Y either blocks or depends on bug #Y. The email I get only tells me that bug #Y now blocks or depends on bug #X. here is my RFE: 1) have a bugzilla option to allow me to say: "automatically cc me on bugs that depend or block on bugs that I'm already the assignee or cc on, if I'm not already cc'd or the assignee." additional suggests that I could spin off to other RFEs: 1) in the email that tells me that bug #Y depends on #X, include a summary of bug #Y 2) in the email that tells me that bug #Y depends on #X, can we linkify bug #Y? (Right now, bug #X is linkified, but not bug #Y). justdave/gerv, does this sound reasonable? adam, gavin, do you think this would be useful?
Including the summary is a good idea. Automatically CC'ing people is not a good idea--that's why they get notified: so that they have the option to CC themselves.
I don't think that this feature would be very useful to me - maintaining a list of "bugs I'm really really interested in" would probably be just as much work as CCing myself individually on relevant dependencies (which doesn't really take much time), and being CCed unconditionally would mean that I could potentially get a bunch of mail I don't want. Also, if I'm really interested in a set of bugs, I can just watch the default QA for the component, and get all bug mail that way.
include a link in the bugmail to allow me to add myself as a cc. this is theoretically risky in that people could spam others w/ links for that purpose, but it's not a big hazard. if the person doesn't read bugmail, then they won't notice the change anyway, if they do, and they agree, they can choose to click that link. if they have to read the bug to decide, then there's already a [ ] Add <me> to CC list checkbox in the bug right below the additional comments field which they can click. if a button [add me to the cc list right now!] would be better than the checkbox, we can talk about how that'd confuse users who have made other changes to the bug. Something could probably be worked out.
