[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060713 SeaMonkey/1.1a] (nightly) (W98SE) For some time, I had the feeling that my hard disk space was filing up. Not long ago, I discovered that my IMAP 'Inbox' file around 150 or 200 MB if I remember well. ... The workaround is obviously to delete both Inbox and Inbox.msf files. What I have noticed since then, is that more often than not, MailNews seems to download again my messages from the server, and adds them to the existing file. Compacting the folders won't reduce the size of the Inbox file. Steps to reproduce: 1. (Stop SeaMonkey) 2. Delete the two Inbox.* files 3. Start MailNews, and let it download the IMAP Inbox messages from the server. 4. Stop MailNews. 5. Delete the Inbox.msf file only. 6. Start MailNews, and let it download the IMAP Inbox messages from the server. R. The Inbox file has now doubled its size...
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060727 SeaMonkey/1.1a] (nightly) (W98SE) Same bug if I simply use the new "Rebuild Summary File" feature on that folder.
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.13) Gecko/20060414] (release) (W98SE) [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.0.5) Gecko/20060721 SeaMonkey/1.0.3] (release) (W98SE) [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060728 SeaMonkey/1.1a] (nightly) (W98SE) I don't know about the "auto-increase", but manually following the steps, this bug was already there in MASv1.7.x and SMv1.8.0.x.
Flags: blocking-thunderbird2?
Serge, I haven't seen other reports like this come across. It's hard to fix this without a reproducible test case. Is is still happening for you? Even if you compact the folder?
Flags: blocking-thunderbird2? → blocking-thunderbird2-
I stopped paying attention when I switched to W2K: I'll have to check this "redownloading" behaviour again... Compacting did not help at the time.
(Reminder to myself: I wonder if "Bug 370401 – frequently rebuilding my imap sent folder index?" could explain the current bug too.)
(I don't have news about the redownloading part; but) The "compact doesn't help" may be bug 369096 comment 8. I'll test again when that one is fixed...
