User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060710 Firefox/2.0b1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060710 Firefox/2.0b1
in the bookmarks menu, in a folder that has lots of bookmarks a scroll bar appears at the end of the bookmarks list. when you scroll down to choose a bookmark from the end of the list and you revisit the same folder the position would have reset to the top bookmarks.
in previous releases the bookmarks sub-menu would still have the previous position, and not reset to the top, which is a much more desirable behavior especially with long rss feeds.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to a bookmarks folder that has a long list of bookmarks (rss feeds work as well)
2. choose a bookmark from the bottom ones
3. revisit the same bookmarks folder
Actual Results:
the bookmarks' list position was rest to the top
Expected Results:
the bookmarks' list position should have stayed at the bottom, or same place it was last

I see this bug in folders but not in the main bookmarks-menu.

Not going to block on this for now, but if someone can track down the regression and submit a fix, that'd be nice! (note: regressions will be considered for approval even beyond the friday deadline)

Backing out attachment 228077 [details] [diff] [review] from bug 318168 fixes it. The same bug occurs in a --disable-places trunk build, but not with Places, so apparently something in the way Places rebuilds the contents of popups every time they show works around it.

1.5.0.x worked fine. This bug effects 2.0.0.x, as well as trunk builds. It's not just the Bookmarks menu, but any menu. Like if there's bookmarks in a folder on the Personal Toolbar, this will also happen.

This bug is still present in the latest release ... 2.0.12. Keep trying new releases but when the bug is still there I revert back to v1.5.0.12 .... it remembers the last location on a long bookmark list. Very annoying bug. I'm surprised that more people haven't complained about it or an attempt hasn't been made to correct it.
Interestingly, I've tried Firefox 3, Beta 2, and the bug was fixed...or so I thought at first. In fact, in that version, the bug is still there but completely inconsistent, which is even more baffling. Within my longest bookmark subfolder, it remembered the position several times in a row, then suddenly stopped remembering it several times, then started remembering it. I cannot imagine what other factor is causing it to act inconsistently.

As far as I can tell, the bug appears to be resolved in Beta 3.
