After loading the testcase and waiting two seconds for the circles to disappear, the patterns should not appear distorted.

Oops, my patch comments didn't make it in, somehow.  At any rate, when I looked at the patch, I noticed that it had significantly changed the behavior of patterns with respect to the size of the surrounding element.  It may even now be the right behavior, but it is definitely different.  The two screenshots show the difference. 

    
    

    
  
WFM on trunk - fixed somewhere in the svg renderer layer removal, most likely.
