Looks like this might actually be related to the printer in use (HP DeskJet 895Cse)
Yeah, it's crashing almost completely within the printing driver.

Do we have a contact at HP? Someone needs to file this bug to them, or CC a contact to this bug to see if we can work around it.
Someone who's seen this (Deb maybe?), can you reproduce this using trunk builds or only branch builds?
Whiteboard: [HP issue?]
This morning I managed to find a way to reliably crash when trying to print to PDF with nightly builds. I generated a bunch of BreakPad reports while trying to sort this out, all with "deb@dria.org" as email -- not sure how to view BreakPad IDs. 1. Create new profile, start Minefield 2. Open a new tab, go to http://www.penny-arcade.com 3. Reload the page until there's an animated flash banner ad on the screen 4. Open File menu (note that flash animation stops while menu is open) 5. Go to PDF > Save as PDF... 6. Save file 7. Crash Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.9a6pre) Gecko/20070614 Minefield/3.0a6pre Printer driver is for an HP LaserJet 1012. Some odd things I noticed while trying to repro this bug: * At one point trying restore my session after a crash just caused another crash. This only happened the one time, but I had to "Start new session" in order to start the browser. Crashed 3-4 times in a row. All other session restores worked ok (mostly, see next item). * One session restore brought up two extra tabs - dupes of the default tabs you get with a new profile on first run. * At one point after restarting after a crash my file menu broke the second time I tried to print -- selecting "Print..." brought up the "Import..." dialog. Ctrl-P still worked fine.
Note: the saved file starts being written, but isn't finished. The PDF exists but can't be opened.
Deb, is it still crashing in the same place (same log) for you? I'm wondering if this has changed at all from the branch to the trunk and if (maybe) it's a different crash that's new and can be fixed on the trunk. :-/
Flags: blocking1.9?
Version: 1.8 Branch → Trunk
I'm not sure I understand the question, unfortunately. I just tested again with the latest nightly and the same crash happened in the same situation. It generated a BreakPad report. build: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.9a6pre) Gecko/20070626 Minefield/3.0a6pre
Can you post the Breakpad ID of the crash? See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Breakpad.
This is crashing way down in the OS. blocking1.9- until we have some evidence that this is gecko's problem.

(In reply to comment #13) > This is crashing way down in the OS. blocking1.9- until we have some evidence > that this is gecko's problem. Looks more like a bug in HP's printer driver than anything else. I don't think there's much anyone here can do, other than report it to HP.
I have the same problem with the FF 3.0 (since a BETA-Version). My system: OS: MAC OS X 10.5.4 RAM: 4GB CPU: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Printer: Canon iP4500 series The Breakpad ID from the last crash is: 096cf3d1-79e3-11dd-9206-001a4bd43ed6 I had the same Problem on my old PowerBook (with PPC-CPU).
I'm now seeing what appears to be the same crash with Firefox 3.0.5 under 10.5.6 on an Intel Mac and my Canon MP610. I don't see this crash in any other application so far. Details of one such crash are at: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/f0fadd81-f4f5-4d84-8569-25a912081225?p=1 So it could be the case HP and Canon each have bugs in their drivers, or it could be that Firefox has a bug.
I just found the Canon-specific version of this bug here, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460963
Same problem with all versions of FF 3, but not 2. OS: MAC OS X 10.5.6 RAM: 4GB CPU: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo I've run 3 different printers on this, a cannon, a dell(lexmark) and an hp. But, even before I installed any printers this was happening. Anytime I print, the first goes through and the second crashes before I get to the printer menu, only happens in Firefox. Happens every time. I have about 20 crash reports "processing", I'll put them up as soon as they are done, but here are the numbers: 36649922-f71b-4bc2-98fc-e35db2090217 2/17/09 3:44 PM 428772ab-940e-4021-adf3-871082090122 1/23/09 1:20 AM 6b5e5106-4847-417a-942f-af3e02090112 1/12/09 6:53 PM c31f635e-dc6a-4901-ae7d-0f8082090111 1/11/09 11:07 PM 5116a620-a55f-4c71-84a8-48f7e2090111 1/11/09 10:17 PM 42d2ce86-6964-44a9-9859-54cda2090111 1/11/09 8:17 PM 86a5374a-9d60-4341-aed2-3004d2090111 1/11/09 8:17 PM 5c9eca85-6e7e-4c4e-9cf2-6c6122081230 12/30/08 2:51 AM 4973e34f-eefc-4e0d-a294-ba66c2081217 12/17/08 10:47 AM 197eb316-5c97-4271-908e-058292081216 12/16/08 7:22 AM 6be1d992-dbf3-455b-947f-dd3d62081208 12/8/08 2:00 PM 2ceaaca6-5362-460b-b424-7c8302081205 12/5/08 4:11 PM 87d9b2d8-601e-48dd-96ad-ce2702081203 12/3/08 2:15 PM 65696f2b-fc31-4fe8-8a7c-086522081203 12/3/08 2:10 PM efe7de49-b48f-4cda-a2ef-c144e2081201 12/1/08 9:14 PM 5791d02e-7996-4ca0-bcbe-4cfc72081201 12/1/08 8:42 PM d4c54b9f-24c5-48ae-b3ce-36d1e2081201 12/1/08 8:40 PM f908ea83-1dbd-4032-8464-09f792081201 12/1/08 3:33 PM 8a3354aa-db61-446d-981f-abfce2081125 11/25/08 2:58 PM 4fbbdc16-fbd7-47ce-a34f-001f12081125 11/25/08 2:54 PM 2a05c155-c8c6-4ba8-9964-f176a2081124 11/24/08 3:50 PM aad56cfd-6b5c-480d-9c9b-ec6720081116 11/16/08 11:28 PM 1310ab8a-b18c-4a32-b130-a15120081111 11/11/08 3:20 PM 825abf66-431c-11dd-a3b1-001cc45a2c28 6/25/08 8:09 PM I had even more, but I guess they got the axe. This is very annoying, I'm going to have to start using Safari for all my expenses :(
I'm guessing this is about as stuck as the similar issue with Canon drivers (bug 460963 comment 31).

This appears to be fixed!!! At least for me and my GF. Mozilla version 3.5.2 OS X version 10.5.8 I doubt it is a printer driver problem, as stated above it happened with three different printers, and even happened with a fresh install (no printer drivers) printing to pdf. Either Firefox or Apple has fixed this for me. If everyone else could post their results I would appreciate it. Hopefully it's not just a fix on our Macs.
I have the same problem, but not on a Mac. I use Firefox 3.0.6 on OpenBSD 4.5. Every second time i print a webpage, firefox crashes.
This is a problem in a Mac-specific printer driver crashing in a Mac-specific way. If you're seeing a problem on OpenBSD, it's not this bug, and you should file a new one.
TVL, if you still see this crash, please see the following references. If still unresolved please reopen the bug. several "second print" bugs were duped to Bug 460963 and Bug 396680. and in general, canon / Mac crashes should see bug 460963
