After the landing of bug 345466, the corner outside the scroll button is the color of the scroll button itself when hovered. Maybe the scroll button images aren't properly transparent. See the upper-right corner of the scroll button shown in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=234113 .

On my Kubuntu, th selection color is orange and this color appears in: the top right corner of the left scrollbox button the top left corner of the right scrollbox button the left side of the "tab list" button

fwiw, I don't see this on windows (and http://lxr.mozilla.org/mozilla1.8/source/toolkit/themes/winstripe/global/icons/tab-arrow-start-bkgnd.png appears to be properly transparent.) yves, can you attach a screen shot of what you are seeing?

I've seen things like this on Linux too, both in 2.0 (the corners of the tab scroll buttons) and 1.5 (the tab close button). I suspect a Linux-only XUL bug or something.

myk, do have cycles to help me with this linux issue?
Yup, looking...
You should definitely talk to mwu about this. I strongly suspect the cause of this (both in 2.0 and 1.5) is the accessibility-related color changes for toolbarbutton hover that he's been considering ripping out.
Indeed, mwu says that beltzner and mconnor have decided not to support high-contrast OS themes in the default browser theme. Instead, we'll be creating a separate high-contrast browser theme for those users who use a high-contrast OS theme. So if we don't have to support high contrast in the default theme, then the fix for this bug is the very simple one-line patch in bug 349055, attachment 235543 [details] [diff] [review], which just removes the OS-specified background color from all toolbar buttons.
