This seems to only occur when doing so from an open message window. Using preview pane doesn't have this problem. Reproducible: Sometimes

Talkback sends its data to a server to be processed. Unless that data has been processed, it's useless. Please paste the Talkback ID(s) of the crash(es) here. Thanks!

I couldn't see where the talkback incident ID was being saved/shown, so this is the best I can do otherwise. -ED-
Ah, sorry. I meant to link you to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talkback in my last post. That should provide the info. you need.

Summary: Crash/hang when deleting last message in folder from open message window → Crash/hang when deleting last message in folder from open message window [@ nsMsgMailSession::OnItemEvent]
Like talkback shows me it happens for all platforms. Only the 1.8.0 branch seems to be affected. It happens by moving or deleting messages.
OS: Windows 2000 → All
Hardware: PC → All
Version: unspecified → 1.5
I don't know if this is related specifically to this problem but, at this time, I cannot use TB without the preview pane. After deleting a single message in the separate message window, I get the 'watch' icon. After that, while the program will let me move around between folders & delete messages, I cannot display any messages either in the separate window or the preview pane and must restart the program.
Are these encrypted/signed messages? The stack shows an s/mime function on the stack, though the top of the stack looks a bit like garbage.
I do use enigmail, however the only signed messages that I receive are from sans.org so, no, the problem isn't occurring specifically as a result of a signed message.
if you turn off enigmail, does the crash still happen?

Uninstalled enigmail and deleted last message (actually, yours) from inbox using open message window and crashed. See TB23877855Z

I don't know how helpful the following is, but I got tired of having to use the preview pane (just not my thing except for newsgroups), so I tried a few things. Bottom line is that the problem appears to be gone. What caused it isn't clear to me. I don't know whether you guys want to continue pursuing this bug or not. I noticed that I'm not the only one reporting this issue but then again I imagine extensions cause a lot of problems, too. Currently installed extensions: - Talkback 1.5.0.8 - AboutConfig 0.6 - Attachment Tools 0.5.2 - Sender Verification Extension 0.7.9 - Dict 0.6.71 - Advanced Junk Mail Filter (Thunderbird 1.5 edition) 1.0 - TB Header Tools Extension 0.6.6 - Mnenhy 0.7.4 - Enigmail 0.94.11 Tried removing all extensions but Talkback. Problem went away. Reinstalled Mnenhy 0.7.4.666...okay Reinstalled Enigmail 0.94.11...okay Reinstalled AboutConfig 0.6...okay Reinstalled Attachment Tools 0.5.4...okay Reinstalled Dict 0.6.71...okay Reinstalled Sender Verification Extension 0.8.0...okay Skipped TB Header Tools Extension (only 0.4.5 version on mozilla.org, not compat w/TB 1.5) Skipped Advanced Junk Mail Filter (not on mozillo.org, besides I didn't really need it) Problem appears to have disappered.
After disabling and enabling extensions, I found that TB Header Tools Extension 0.6.6 was the culprit, so I downgraded to version 0.5.5. which works fine.
Thanks for the info., Ed and Gregg. I'm tempted to resolve this as INVALID, but an extension really shouldn't be able to crash Firefox.

Gregg, does it also fail with thunderbird 2? Adam in #17 > ... I'm tempted to resolve this as INVALID, but > an extension really shouldn't be able to crash Firefox. INVALID is of course "the standard." But is there any reasonable way to avoid the crash, especially since the exact cause is not known?

Still crashes with TB2. Did not find any recent activity by extension writer (ausdilecce) in mozillazine forums, and his web site was not available. If I need the function of this extension, I will enable, use it, and disable it, careful not to delete the last message.
breakpad has replaced talkback on the trunk, so perhaps testing with a current trunk build would give new info... http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-trunk/ FWIW, Header Tools seems to be a dead end - www.supportware.net/mozilla/ is often up and down (currently down) http://forum.addonsmirror.net/index.php?showtopic=6241 and still no sign of a version approved for TB 1.5 or 2. Perhaps the author would be willing to sign it over to you?

(In reply to comment #19) > Still crashes with TB2. Did not find any recent activity by extension writer > (ausdilecce) in mozillazine forums, and his web site was not available. does v2 fail also with the older version of TB Header Tools Extension - i.e. 0.5.5?
Given this crash is in OnItemEvent, preceeded by NotifyFolderEvent, looks like dup of bug 410320, which has already been fixed. Should be in the next 2.x release of Thunderbird.
