User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060913 Fedora/1.5.0.7-1.fc5 Firefox/1.5.0.7 pango-text Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060913 Fedora/1.5.0.7-1.fc5 Firefox/1.5.0.7 pango-text I'm not sure of the best way of going about this; the diggler extension (URL given) has been decaying for a while (FF 1.0). I couldn't do without it, and the small collection of diggler-alikes on add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/search.php?q=diggler&app=firefox) and google matches for 1.5-compatiblity patches for it indicate I'm not the only one. I've taken the extension as-is, tidied it up a bit (using the new manifest mechanism) and debugged a couple of menu oddities, making it FF 2.0 compatible. I've tried emailing the original author (adamlock@eircom.net, from bugzilla and his mozdev site http://diggler.mozdev.org/) but there's no response. Naturally, I /could/ generate a new UUID and release 'diggler2' or something but that wouldn't immediately help all the current users, so ideally I'd like to take ownership of this alongside my own extension ("URL Link"). Is that possible? It's looking like non-2.0 extensions (or at least non-1.5 ones) are expecting deletion soon anyway. Naturally, if the original author /does/ tip up again at some point in the future, he can have it back! Oh, and I apologise if this should have been logged under 'add-ons'; this seemed more appropriate. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: N/A
I have emailed the author about this - hopefully he will reply. If he does not, we will have to go from there. We may need to take a look at our policy for taking over extensions such as this with Firefox 2.0 coming out and the possibility of removing outdated extensions, as you mentioned, but that's a separate bug, somewhere under bug 245198

The author has not replied, unfortunately. shaver/morgamic, policy statement?

We can't just give that ownership to someone else, alas; doing that is begging to put us in the middle of ownership disputes that we are in no position to mediate. If the source license permits it, you can make a derivative yourself (though calling it something other than "diggler 2" is probably a good idea) -- there are a number of such add-ons already on AMO, of the form "Foo Enhanced" or "Foo Plus" or such.
