User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 If you setup a master password to protect all your passwords, Firefox 1.5 used to ask it once at start of firefox and if you don't fill it, once everytime you visit a site for which it holds the password information. If you don't fill the master password at that time too, it doesn't bother you and you can fill whatever login and password yourself. That was Firefox 1.5 In Firefox 2, if you open a site for which firefox holds the login info, it throws the popup asking master password as soon as you type a letter in the login box. You simply can't login to the site if you don't know the master password of firefox as it keeps on popping up. This makes my firefox completely unusable for my friends who want to occasionally check their mail on my machine. Secondly, when I click on change master password button in options, the password popup comes up again, and it doesn't cancel. I have to force close firefox to get rid of it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make firefox remember your login info for any site, say gmail. 2. Set a master password. 3. Restart firefox, behave as if you don't know the master password. 4. Try to login to gmail. The master password popup will keep on coming on key press and you would not be able to login to the site. This is Bug #1 5. Go to Options, click on change Master Password and then try to cancel. It doesn't. Actual Results: The master password popup keep on coming on key press. And in options, it doesn't cancel. Expected Results: Should be similar to Firefox 1.5.
I can confirm this bug, with modifications however. In fact, Sanjay reported two bugs, and one of them is more severe than the other, but they may be related. In it's first incarnation, this bug can easily result in data loss (for example, form information may be lost) Assuming that you have already saved some passwords and a master password, here is how to reproduce them. A - FORCED CLOSE WHEN SELECTING SHOW PASSWORDS 1. Start Firefox as if you don't know the master password 2. Select "Tools->Options->View Passwords" (NOT Change Master Password) 3. No matter what you do (apart from entering the correct password), the password dialog just keeps on popping up. There seems to be no way out except to kill Firefox. 4. Note that if I had stumbled into this bug halfway through this error report, I would have lost all form information when I killed Firefox. B - REPEATED POP-UP ON GMAIL (NOT ON ALL SITES) 0. Ensure you have saved a username/password for gmail 1. Start Firefox as if you don't know the master password 2. Go to gmail and enter your name. You will need to press cancel after each letter. 3. This is probably related to some JavaScript-like functionality on gmail, as it does not occur on other sites. Nevertheless, it is extremely annoying and affects a very popular web site
I now realize that bug 269138 describes scenario A in my previous post.
