User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 Many people related to AMO know the following two issues: 1. A considerably part of the add-ons provided on AMO aren't compatible to the latest version (and a part of them to the major version before). 2. After each major release, people come along and ask if they can maintain an add-on which isn't compatible anymore. For this reasons it would be good if the add-on developers provide some licensing information for each add-on. They should be able to provide this information when they send it to the approval queue or later by choosing from a list of popular licenses which have links to their content or two fields for adding them if it isn't listed. What would be needed: 1. Possibility of multi-licensing. 2. Recording of changes (prevent that someone switches back to a stronger protection [for the same version]). This doesn't mean that someone could get control about an "abandoned" version (== the guid), but he should be sure if he is allowed to start a new folk for situations in which the developer can't be contacted (hasn't provided contact information, ...). For the future: A tag in the install.rdf with reference to the parent add-on could be provided and automatically been read and written to a similar add-ons list below an abandoned/not anymore compatible add-on on AMO ( bug 361949 ). This could also be used if the license for the new add-on is valid (if it has to be under the license of the old add-on again). Reproducible: Always
