I am getting unresponsive script message every time I try to open up Thunderbird - been happening now for approx 3 weeks - never had it before - what is the problem. I have done nothing to hardware or software. And when I click continue it fixes and opens thunderbird
windows xp
ie (latest version)
presaario pentium 4

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open thunderbird
2. hangs then passwrod box opens and 'unrsponsive script' message appears
3. click on continue to load it up and thunderbird opens
4. mail opens up and all ok

Actual Results:
1. open thunderbird
2. hangs then passwrod box opens and 'unrsponsive script' message appears
3. click on continue to load it up and thunderbird opens
4. mail opens up and all ok

Expected Results:
tunderbird opens and all ok but I have to go through this every time I open thundeerbird - it may not be too big a bug but it is definitely annoying and since it appeared on its own, this is telling more bugs are lurking.
Result? I want ti stopped.

go right into thunderbird and open up my email

So then where is the original - what number is it so I can research and see if I can fix this myself. I know I looked for it and couldn't find it so where is the original??? And how was it resolved????
this (bug 364378) is the original.

Do you have any extensions installed?
I just downloaded the beta of thunderbird 2.0 so it is resolved. But it did not get resolved through your help. All you have done is send me emails telling me it is a duplicate yet nop reference to the original
That does not speak well for thunderbird help does it
I'm sorry you're frustrated. You've been using bug reporting system, not the support/help news groups. You filed two copies of the same bug, so we marked one as a dup of the other. I'm sorry that the bugzilla process is confusing, but it's a bug tracking tool, primarily for developers, not a help/support tool for end users.

the newsgroup mozilla.support.thunderbird on news.mozilla.org might be more what you're looking for.

The reason I asked if you had any extensions installed is that no one else has reported a problem like this, and extensions sometimes cause "unique" behavior. If this is caused by an extension, most likely it's a problem with the extension, and thus not appropriate for bugzilla.

you asked if had any extensions? - no
And now the problem is back with the new beta version of thunderbird 2.0 I get the same message - 'unresponsive script error - server busy or may have stopped responding click....' So there is definite some type of bug in your system - all was well up to a month ago

I recently encountered "unresponsive script" using trunk build, and don't believe it is related to this bug, but for mentioning it here for completeness - [Bug 480848] New: unresponsive script warning starting thunderbird folderPane.js:845

Summary: unresponive script message every time I open thunderbird 1.05.08 → unresponive script message every time I open thunderbird 1.05.08 during startup
fyi for passersby, some common causes that we see are:
1. starting thunderbird during windows startup, or while other programs are also being started
2. antivirus software monitoring the thunderbird profile directory when it shouldn't be
3. large panacea.dat file
4. one or more addons inducing lots of mail folder IO
