We should reevaluate our interpretation of the term "character cell" as used here: http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/interact.html#PointerEventsProperty More background can be found in bug 369054 amongst the noise. According to: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-svg/2007Feb/thread.html#msg14 "character cell" is an SVG term for the em square.
Fixed by patch in bug 375141
