Just to clarify, the non-places builds are broken , I didn't test a places enabled builds

I see no obvious problems with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a3pre) Gecko/2007031610 Minefield/3.0a3pre and a new profile.

However, if I use Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a3pre) Gecko/2007031610 Minefield/3.0a3pre and make a new profile, and then copy over my places.sqlite file from my usual trunk profile to the new test profile, then I do see such problems.

The changes have been backed out.

udpated to the latest hourly using a previous trunk profile, and am no longer able to see the problem.
