Confirmed on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a6pre) Gecko/20070621 Thunderbird/3.0a1pre ID:2007062103
Guess it's because it's a src="data:..." image.

it's "inlined data" according to http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/objects.html#h-13.3.1
-- r.
If you add new property "network.protocol-handler.expose.data", and set its value to "true", then it will work.
This will by-pass some weird TB security code related to composer window.

I have the same problem but it only happens if I'm forwarding or replying a message. If it's a new one, the attached HTML signature image (Jpeg) shows correctly.
The image shows like this in my signature file:
<img moz-do-not-send="false" alt="<Name>" title="<Name>"
src="file:///<Path>" height="35" width="108"><br>
TB 2.0.0.19 (20081209) pt-BR - Win2k SP4 en-US

Add new property "network.protocol-handler.expose.file", and set its
value to "true", then it will work.
This will by-pass some weird TB security code related to composer window.

Yes, I saw it in Comment #4, but it didn't work for me. I created the key, set the value and replied/forwarded messages without being able to see the image embedded in my signature.

@$#%^ !!!
Read carefully, please!
in #4 there is
"network.protocol-handler.expose.data", which is releated to "data:" URLs,
in #6 there id
"network.protocol-handler.expose.file", which is releated to "file:" URLs, in other words to files loaded from local drives.
I use both of them in my extension, to make my life with HTML easier.

This works for me on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090113 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0b2pre
The problem with the 2.x and early 3.0x builds is that we weren't allowing the data or file urls to be loaded in the content policy. We've now fixed that in bug 429817, Thunderbird 3 beta 1 already has the fix.
Therefore I'm marking this fixed as a result of bug 429817 (as it is not quite a duplicate).
