User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5) Gecko/20070713 Firefox/2.0.0.5

Switching between Mozilla products does something strange to the focus controls.

If I've highlighted some text, I no longer have access to the Copy, Search Google For, Select All, or View Selection Source options. The context sensitive menu acts as if I've just clicked anywhere else on the page.

Delete and other keys work. I can type inside text boxes, but I can't navigate inside them.

Text areas seem to act differently. Sometimes the text area reacts even though the cursor is in another textbox on the page/application. Sometimes one text area reacts even though the cursor is in another text area. This is especially annoying when I want to paste text in one text area and it appears in another.

Sometimes, if I highlight text on a page and move the mouse, any text areas between the highlighted HTML text and the current position of the mouse appear highlighted.

Occasionally this behavior shows up when I just switch to another tab.

Resizing the browser or hitting F7 and turning caret browsing off appears to remove the bug temporarily.

If I click into a textbox, then switch to the other Firefox, then switch back to the original one, clicking inside the address bar or another textbox, changes I make appear in the original textbox, even though I clicked a new one.

This bug has reappeared and disappeared several times during the writing of this bug report.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a firefox window
2. Use Firefox to visit a web site
3. Switch focus to another application in the Mozilla Suite (another open firefox or thunderbird)
. Go back to original Firefox
4. Now, for all text boxes (including the address bar and search bar, and also
any embedded in a web page) the home, end, arrow, backspace, copy, paste, etc.
keys and functions don't work.
Actual Results:
Arrow/Home/End keys do not work in textboxes, the address bar, or the search bar.

Copy/Paste/"Search Google for" menu options do not show up in context-sensitive menus when highlighting text on a web page.

Expected Results:
The keys in question should have functioned. The expected menu options should exist. Paste should paste into the text area or textbox where I have clicked the mouse pointer and indicated where I want focus. Highlighting text should just stay on the highlighted text and not start highlighting intervening text areas.

might be good to check which of these still fail (or work) in current trunk
It still does it in 2.0.0.7. Do you want me to download and install Firefox 3?
Ok i have been having this problem for a while now and it is driving me nuts!
In older version of FireFox it only happend very rarely and only affected the address bar, now (2.0.0.11) it happens almost half the time i enter any text field, closing FireFox and restarting doesn't help! Not only that, it now also affects ALL textboxes, for example, i try to log into my gmail.. ups.. misspelled pass... try shift-home... NOTHING... try shift-left... NOTHING... try JUST left STILL NOTHING!!! Sometimes it starts selecting some random surrounding html text instead.. i.e. part of the "Password:" in front of the actual password text box.

I came from another bug report (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=264037) where i found that someone said resizing the FireFox window will help, and i found it really did... but only for the current tab.. text boxes in another tab didn't work until i resized again.. or if i selected the address bar and then resized and then switched between the (working) address bar and non-working text boxes they started to work again.

I am not sure exactly what cases this, but it has apparently been described in various threads.. i often use the alt-d shortcut (to select and overwrite the address) and have the feeling it happens more often when i do.

In any case, this is completely unacceptable, it is a major annoyance and serious problem that seems to get worse with every version instead of better.
Please FIX this, if i have to manually resize the window an every second page i might as well switch to IE7.
I have not been able to get this to happen in Firefox 3. In fact, I have not had it happen since the update to 2.0.0.12.

Unfortunately, the systems that were having the issue are no longer in service and I've moved on to new systems that don't appear to be having the issue. I can not confirm whether or not this bug is "fixed" by 2.0.0.12 or not.
