Hello.

I appreciate Mozilla's Firefox and I hope you continue the great work done. However, I must explain a strong concern about the handling of PDF documents. Anything more than a few pages long, freezes firefox and NOT only the specific window but ALL Firefox Windows. I have had this experience on four different machines. Therefore I do not believe it has anything to do with particular settings.

I have resigned to opening IE when I have to deal with PDF documents.

PDF documents are handled by a plugin (Adobe Acrobat), not by Firefox. Please make sure that you have the latest version of the plugin.

The latest version of Acrobat Reader is 8.1.2: you can get it at

Please verify your settings in Firefox and in Acrobat Reader:

Note that there are other softwares capable of reading PDF documents outside Firefox and without the usual problems of Acrobat Reader executable. I use Foxit Reader 2.3

This bug is most likely INVALID.

i am using latest firefox 3.5.1 and also have the latest adobe acrobat plugin but after all these thing firefox hang some times when more than on .pdf files are open in different tabs 

for example when i am opening:
oreilly.com/catalog/javawt/book/index.html this file and some other pdf link on this page suddenly my firefox hang and then i open task manager(windows xp) then end the firefox and restart again the a page coming on screen saying that:

"it's so embracing"
that one of the tab have problem in restoring you session so please choose which tab tab you want to like restore

and then showing all tabs which opend at last time when firefox hangs then i uncheck the .pdf tab and restore my previous tabs so it's working fine.

so please check this issue and solve it if it's a problem otherwise sorry if i am making a wrong comment

do you still see this with FF version 3.6?

I am having this issue with 4.0b12. Open the pdf in IE 8, it instantly loads the first page and shows a loading percentage in the bottom left. In FF, I refresh the page multiple times and all I see is a black bar at the bottom of the screen. Only workaround is to right-click the file and choose 'save as'

markleci, what version of PDF reader?


I can't reproduce this on vista with FF 6.0a1 2011-05-15 and adobe reader 10.0.1.434

The original post and related problem is too old and the behavior of Firefox and Adobe's Acrobat have both changed substantially. Thus, I declare this "resolved" even though I am not sure.

People experiencing a similar glitch may want to open a clean bug ticket?
