There is an odd effect: If a page doesn't load immediately, Firefox doesn't show the URL in the location bar. The spinner spins but the location bar is empty. The URL does eventually appear but only after some time. It looks that this is somehow connected to the first byte of data for the page but I'm not sure. I've seen this in the following circumstances:
- Clicking on a URL in Thunderbird (-> opens a new tab in Firefox with the URL)
- Restoring a big session
I think this always happens but usually, the event which triggers the copying of the URL into the field comes quickly so you don't notice.
The problem is when the loading of the page takes very long (for example, when Firefox hangs somewhere) or when I would like to send a new request because I'm getting restless. If I stop the transfer (escape key or the Stop button), I end up with an empty location bar, so I can't reload the page.
It gets worse when Firefox hangs during restoring the session. The session file has already been deleted (at least FF won't read it a second time if I kill it) and the pages haven't loaded yet. If it hangs now, I'm loosing my session with no way back.
Please overwrite the location bar first and then start to load the page. Or at least overwrite the location bar as soon as you clear the old document.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Load this page: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=367605
2.Duplicate the tab
You should see a blank page and a blank URL for a short moment. In this example, I couldn't force a blank URL by quickly pressing Escape but loading the bugzilla page takes a long time, so you should see the effect.
