The .se registry expanded the number of languages they support for IDN domains, we need to revalidate it. The link to their IDN policy from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/tld-idn-policy-list.html is a 404 (www.nic-se.se redirects to www.iis.se) The policy on display at IANA is the old one covering only Swedish. http://www.iana.org/assignments/idn/se-swedish.html Announcement: http://www.iis.se/english/nyheter/news/2007-09-06?lang=en Apparent new acceptable character list: http://www.iis.se/pdf/teckentabell-03.pdf Couldn't find a policy on homographs, but it looks like a reasonable expansion and no one's going to confuse Hebrew letters for some other "western" characters.

I would expect them not to mix languages, given that their new list has the languages numbered and says that certain characters apply only to certain numbers. But you are right, I can't see where it says that explicitly. And their English pages may be lacking behind the Swedish ones; a lot of the ones which get turned up when you search the site for "IDN" refer only to the initial five letters they added. I'll send email to the press contact. Gerv

Hi Gerv, What is the status here?
I got no response. I've just sent another email, suggesting that they should get in touch with me, or we might be forced to remove their domain from the whitelist. Let's see what response that gets. :-) Gerv
I've had a reply; they forgot to reply to my original message. Information on their policies can be found here: http://www.iis.se/domains/IDN (you may need to use the link at the bottom of the page to switch to English.) http://www.iis.se/docs/teckentabell-03.pdf is indeed their list. They also say: "We only permit registration of domain names containing characters from the same script. For instance, Finnish and Swedish share character set completely, so there is no way to tell whether the domain is in one language or another. But, you aren't allowed to mix scripts in names, so for instance, you can't mix characters from the hebrew character set used to express domain names in Yiddish with characters from the latin characther set, usetd to express domain names in for instance Danish." Checking their list, this seems fine. So I've updated the web page. (May take an hour to sync.) Checking in tld-idn-policy-list.html; /www/mozilla-org/html/projects/security/tld-idn-policy-list.html,v <-- tld-idn-policy-list.html new revision: 1.15; previous revision: 1.14 done Gerv
