The plugin interfaces should be cleaned up and converted to IDL.
Adding warren.
I think I'll take this bug, and let Andrei review it for me.
Assignee: av → warren
Target Milestone: --- → M18
warren: You say in bug 44754, "We're abandoning the idl stuff." Should this one
be marked WONTFIX (or pushed to Future)?
*** Bug 44670 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Not a Netscape 6 RTM blocker. FUTURE. This bug has been marked Future because
the Netscape engineer it is assigned to is overburdened.
Target Milestone: M18 → Future
Depends on: 64296, 64297
Well, if the Netscape engineer can't handle it, let's give it to someone who can.

What's the IDL story? I looks like a lot of the IDL is already in place, but
confusingly ignored during the build process.

marking as dup of general clean-up bug

beppe: Why a duplicate and not a blocker?

I actually suspect this should be resolved WONTFIX; I believe efforts to convert
the plugin interfaces to IDL were aborted on the grounds that these
already-frozen interfaces are doing things that XPIDL doesn't support.
because it will be resolved in the course of the already scheduled clean-up
Are you quite sure of that? Previous indications were that this was not resolvable.
no, we are in the planning phase right now, hence all the bug movement that you
are seeing, this particular issue is on the list to get resolved, and the
clean-up will actually resolve a host of these types of bugs.
If you are not sure, then why not leave this open until the appropriate
resolution can be determined?
that is why it is marked as a dupe, these issues will be verified on fixing the
main bug
beppe, that's not correct. If this is a specific task which falls inder the
umbrella of a more general bug then a dependency relationship should be set up,
not a duplicate relationship. metabugs aren't for duping every other bug
against, they're for tracking (usually through dependency lists) the specific
tasks which block the completion of a more general goal. This bug should be
reopened and set as a blocker to the metabug.
Asa: this is already covered in the genreal clean-up bug, the team is discussing
and triaging bugs per issue and we are duping appropriately
Beppe, how is it appropriate to dupe a specific task against a general tracking
bug? That makes no sense at all to anyone else. You wouldn't create a "Mozilla
is buggy" tracking bug and dupe the database against it.
beppe: Making the summary of bug 88998 more vague is not particularly helpful.
There still is no clear indication in bug 88998 that it bug captures the essence
of this one. Specifically: either transition to IDL files for the plug-in
interfaces needs to be completed, and the corresponding header files removed
from the tree; OR, that transition should be fully aborted, and the unused IDL
files should be removed from the tree.

Perhaps your team has indeed discussed addressing this issue one way or the
other as part of its plan to address bug 88998, but I can find no indication of
that in Bugzilla. Please either reopen this bug as a blocker for bug 88998, or
clearly indicate in bug 88998 that you mean for it to address this issue.
Yes, Braden we will be adding data to the bugs indicating the issues that will
be addressed. That is part of our planning process. Just give us a week or so to
finish triaging the bug list, once the triage is complete, we will resweep the
open list and begin entering the data about what and how each issue will be handled.
