User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110904 Firefox/3.0b1 Installed firefox 3b1 and nothing works (safe mode is identical except no little Gmail Notifier in the corner)! Home page loads blank unless you click home, which results in the start page loading (not home page). Pages are always loading in the tab bar (shows titles with the circular dot loading graphic), even when the page is actually loaded. Back and forward are disabled. Location bar never changes to reflect the site actually visiting, just the site the user typed in. History and bookmarks are blank. Can't find a duplicate so I am assuming that no one else has this problem...could it be mirror problem? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download & Install Firefox 3 Beta 1 2. Open Firefox 3 Beta 1 Actual Results: Microsoft Firefox opens (no offense) Expected Results: Mozilla Firefox opens
Part of this is a duplicate of bug 404465 and bug 404467. Sorry about that.
the remaining issues without dupes are: Home page loads blank unless you click home, which results in the start page loading (not home page). Pages are always loading in the tab bar (shows titles with the circular dot loading graphic), even when the page is actually loaded. could you check in your profile folder what places.* files do you have?
This is interesting: places.sqlite places.sqlite.corrupt 223 more corrupt files, ranging from places.sqlite-1.corrupt to places.sqlite-223.corrupt I had been using the alpha and prereleases, too, but I doubt for 224 times, even back when I had the Fx2a's Places. Deleting all of these files results in, oh, surprize surprize, everything working normally except for the huge memory leak (happening again!) that caused my computer to crash when I tried to submit this comment (!). I don't know whether this bug should be resolved or if it should be renamed to something that is specified to a corrupted places. I will forward this to the bugs I duped if no one else beats me to it.
someone has to investigate on this, it's the second case i see today of a profile with multiple created places.sqlite.corrupt... and that is causing a lot of problems, mainly not functional history related UI. Firefox should not start if there is not a valid places.sqlite, and stop after some bad try to recreate it...
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: Loss of Basic Features with Firefox 3b1 → Loss of Basic Features with Firefox 3b1 caused by corrupt places.sqlite
i had a third confirmation of this issue some minute ago on my forum...
+1 for being number 4.
the problem could be quite bad since a user moving from firefox 2 to firefox 3 will end up with some hundred corrupt file, + a not usable browser. bad things are: - something (sqlite3_open? access from another thread before the db is fully completed?) is returning SQLITE_CORRUPT or SQLITE_NOTADB - even if there is not a valid database the browser starts anyway, with loss of basic functionality cc-ing sdwilsh since this could also be connected to mozStorage

I saw the same yesterday with latest trunk and Windows XP; a lot of .corrupt files.
Flags: blocking-firefox3?
Seth/Dietrich: can you please resolve this / help find STR?

> Seth/Dietrich: can you please resolve this / help find STR? for people seeing this, before the upgrade to 3b1, were you running a profile created by alpha 2, alpha 3 or alpha 4? if so, this could be a dup of bug #404565 which is a dup of bug #408443
For me, yes. Using alpha before.
i have seen this a couple of times yesterday, i'm not sure but it was like this happened when a schema change tried to add an index that already existed (i had a V7 schema change to test adding a new index, moving back and forward from my test build to the current nighlty caused that), don't know if that's true however.
I had installed alpha2 & alpha9
I don't remember which ones, but I had installed several alphas, too.
Adreas, Matthey, and Alex: thanks for the quick responses. are you guys will to download and try a nightly trunk build to see if the problem is fixed? if so, try one from today (12/18/07), which has the fix for bug #408443
3.0 b3pre of 12/18/07 fixed this problem
> 3.0 b3pre of 12/18/07 fixed this problem Great, thanks for the fast response Matthew! Marking as a dup of bug #408443, but if someone ran into this and they never ran the alpha, let's re-open or start a new bug.

Not sure; I tried installing Fx 3a2 (as suggested) and it had the same problems I had in 3b1, but opening 3b1 and 12/18/07 both acted normally, even though there were corrupt files. I deleted the corruptions and can't get them back no matter how many times I start 3a2, so I can't be of much more help. Sorry

> Not sure; I tried installing Fx 3a2 (as suggested) Sorry about the confusion, but to clarify, I was not suggesting that. I was asking if you had run a2, a3, a4 at some point.
OK. Strangely I got the same thing for a3 as a2, but a4 worked fine while running.
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
